Pinewood Derby

This is Jason's first pinewood derby.  He had a clear plan about what his car was supposed to look like.  He made some sketches and then outlined it on his block of wood. Our neighbor, James, was kind enough to help us out with the power tools.  You can clearly see a young man  overseeing the process to make sure it is done right!
We got the car all done and ready for the big day! We added some weights to make it go fast, and the #29 for luck!
Jason was so excited about his car.  He was so sure he was going to win.  We tried prepare him if he didn't win, but I don't think he really heard us.  His car did well, but it was definitely not the fastest.  I could tell he was a little upset.  Even with the disappointment Jason tried to stay happy, he didn't complain, or get upset.

In the end I was so proud of him. He was such a good listener, he followed the rules, and he didn't get sucked into all the chaos that was around us. It's hard to behave when everyone else is making poor choices, including your friends, but he didn't succumb to the craziness.  In the pinewood derby of life... he won first prize.
